Bee Camp is a bio-diagram that takes the form of a card game based loosely around a personal family tradition. The game format was inspired by the fun spirit and inclusiveness of the original Bee Camp. It includes Activity Cards, Character Cards, a note pad, and a box to store them all in.
I started out writing down and organizing all the information about myself. From there I narrowed down my focus to Bee Camp. Bee Camp is an annual three day get together over the summer with all of my aunts and cousins. We call it Bee Camp because we do a lot of activities that are common a summer camps and our last name is Bee.
Once I choose my topic I began working on a visual identity. I wanted something fun that would capture the spirit of Bee Camp. I also wanted it to be bright and friendly like my family.
At this stage I decided the information should take the form of a game. My family is very competitive and we love to play games. Originally I thought that it could be a board game but I found that to be too governed and strict. Bee camp is more loose with its structure and more open to creativity.
First all the players draw a card from the Character deck. This tells you whether you are a camper or a counselor.
Then everyone takes turns drawing an Activity card. Each player must preform the action required by the card they drew. Once the Activity has been completed they then discard and the next player goes. Activities may be different depending on if the player who drew the card is a camper or a counselor. The game ends when all the Activities have been completed or when you’ve had too much fun.
There is no point system because everyone is a winner!
